Hot Fudge Cake Recipe

By: Brent High

bigboyIt’s no secret my favorite restaurant dessert is Shoney’s Hot Fudge Cake. Mom and Dad even have a picture of me at one of my first birthday parties with Shoney’s Hot Fudge Cake smeared all over my arms and face. When I ran across the recipe for this eighth wonder of the world I was filled with glee.

Shoney’s Hot Fudge Cake
  • ½ cup margarine
  • 2 cups sugar
  • ½ cup cocoa
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups plain flour
  • dash of salt
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon soda (dissolved in 1 teaspoon water)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup boiling water

Cream margarine and sugar. Add cocoa and eggs, then remaining ingredients in order given. Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees in sheet cake pan. Serve with Hot Fudge Sauce.

    Shoney’s Hot Fudge Sauce
  • 1 large package chocolate chips
  • ¾ stick margarine
  • 1 box powdered sugar
  • 1 large can evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Melt chips and butter in double boiler over hot water. Add sugar and milk alternately, stirring constantly. Add vanilla and cook for 4-5 minutes until thick.

There are many “recipes” authors and preachers have outlined as the best way to follow Christ and exhibit true Christianity. Many times we forget Paul boiled the recipe for Christianity down to a single verse.

“The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." – Galatians 5:14

Now if I can just learn how to make square ice cream.

    In HIM,
