There's a Stirring
By: Brent High

It has been months since I have written anything for this site.

In January of 2001 I began asking God for the same things a man named Jabez asked God for thousands of years ago.

"And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, "Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!" So God granted him what he requested." - 1 Chronicles 4:10

"Increase my territory," was the part of that prayer I was not ready for the Lord to answer.

He did just that.

I tried to manage the new territory by myself and failed miserably. I felt burned out, washed up, and left wondering what in the world it was I had gotten myself into.

Time has a way of healing. Over the past few months I have had a great deal of time to reflect on who I am, who the Lord wants me to be, and what He wants me to do. He wants me to stretch again. He wants to give me some new territory. I don't know what it is yet, but I am confident He will provide it. Last year it came in the form of a wonderful son, increased responsibilities at work, and more ministry opportunities than I could imagine.

This time I am giving him the role of manager from the beginning.

There's a song we sing at church from time to time that describes how I feel right now. The lyrics are as follows:

There's a stirring deep within me
Could it be my time has come
When I'll se my gracious Savior
Face to face when all is done
Is that His voice I am hearing
Come away my precious one
Is He calling me?
Is He calling me?
I will rise up
Rise up
And bow down
And lay my crown
at His wounded feet
